Zurich, Switzerland, July 05, 2006 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has signed an agreement with The Dow Chemical Company as one of two preferred suppliers for IEC switchgear and motor controls.

The three-year pact, covering a variety of electrical switchgear and control products, complements an existing strategic agreement with Dow for ABB Industrial IT control systems.

“This agreement combines high-reliability ABB products working in a systems environment with other key elements of our power and automation offering,” said Tom Sjoekvist, head of ABB’s Automation Products division. “We are committed to collaborating with Dow on integrated solutions that produce an attractive return on investment.”

The new agreement designates ABB as a strategic supplier of low-voltage switchgear and motor control centers, plus medium-voltage switchgear to Dow facilities that operate according to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) regulatory standards. The products agreement continues a long collaboration between ABB and Dow, which operates more than 150 manufacturing sites worldwide.

In 2001, the two companies forged a ten-year strategic agreement to infuse Dow’s plants with a new generation of ABB Industrial IT technologies to link diverse operations and enhance productivity. The agreement was recently extended for an additional five years, and Dow has since extended its relationship with ABB to cover the purchase of low-voltage drives, transformers, and instrumentation products.
